Running For Cover picks up where book one ends with crime reporter Allen Nieber trying to atone for a fatal mistake driven by his ambition and hubris. He lost someone dear and attempted to hide its true circumstances from Detroit’s chief homicide detective, a cop who knows him a little too well. Now he’s forced to navigate a dangerous path to preserve his reputation and life. His journey brings him under the thumb of the infamous Purple Gang and it’s leader, Abe Bernstein. In a game of cat and mouse Nieber must play a part he’s uncomfortable with and keep his cool, despite how it threatens to destroy the relationship with his fiancé, his father, and his beloved career. He’s pulled in all directions and treads a path fraught with violence, physic stress, and moral tests. A central question threaded throughout the story is how Nieber will get out of the mess he’s gotten himself into. As in book one of this series, real historical events are blended with fictional storytelling, crafted to depict the setting with full authenticity.
Running for Cover is written for those interested in crime fiction set in the early 20th century, the culture, shenanigans and moral ambiguity of the Prohibition era, and for readers who enjoy stories about personal growth.
